2015 Ford Explorer vs Chevrolet Traverse

2015 Ford Explorer vs 2015 Chevrolet Traverse

Is there any vehicle more road-ready than the 2-15 Ford Explorer?  With a name that evokes adventure and discovery, the Explorer has been wandering off the beaten, conventional path that has been well-traveled by the other SUVs, and forged ahead in a new direction.  For over 20 years, the Explorer has given car buyers the choice to choose a car less ordinary.  With the ability to perform and handle like few other vehicles on the road, it is easy to see just why this full-size crossover SUV is so popular with drivers.  A chief rival of the Explorer is a relatively new offering from Chevrolet.  Here is a look at the the 2015 Ford Explorer vs the 2015 Chevrolet Traverse.

Superior Power and Spacious Interior Set the Explorer Apart

The Chevy traverse tries hard to keep up with the Explorer, and there are some definite similarities at first glance.  The MSRP for both models at base levels is within $200 (both vehicles have an MSRP north of $31,000).  A V6 engine is standard with both SUVs.  EPA estimates list both crossovers at 17 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway as well. However, the similarities start to become less and less frequent in proportion to the thoroughness of the investigation. While the EPA-estimated fuel economy is identical, the Explorer is flex-fuel capable, while the Traverse is only fueled by regular unleaded gasoline. The Ford Explorer is also able to generate more horsepower, with its V6 putting out 290 HP.  The Chevy Traverse falls short, able to produce 281 HP.

The 2015 Ford Explorer is also able to separate itself from its classmate in a couple of ways with interior features.  While it seems like power seats coming as a standard feature should be a given, the Traverse only have this feature as optional.  The Explorer provides power seating as basic feature.  And while the Traverse is a longer vehicle, it does not put that extra space to use as well as the Explorer.  With 39.8" of rear legroom the 2015 Ford Explorer has three extra inches of space for its passengers to enjoy.

The 2015 Ford Explorer Pushes Forward
